citat How does transnational migration and care work in Spain come together through the global market? citat

I hold a BA in social anthropology and an MPhil in Anthropology of Development, both from the University of Bergen, Norway. My MPhil project focused on migration from Senegal to Spain, and explored how migration trajectories are constructed in the meeting between sociocultural practices and global structures.

The working title of my PhD thesis is Experience, Expectation, Exchange: Giving Care through Migrancy between Bolivia and Spain, and the project is an ethnographic study of what I call the global market of care. I focus on care work as it is carried out in the homes of Spanish families, often by migrated women and often within the secondary economy. I investigate how the care work sector in Spain is made possible through transnational migration, legal structuration, and different forms of socioeconomic differentiation, with particular focus on gender, race, and class. I have done extensive fieldwork in the Basque Country in Spain and in different Bolivian localities, and with my interview and fieldnote material as vantage points I study how this ‘market’ is configured in the social, political, and economic relations between Spain and Bolivia.
