Maria Persdotter
Doctoral Student

citat My PhD research project is about the politics that are currently taking shape in relation to so-called ”vulnerable EU-citizens” in Sweden with a focus on questions of housing and homelessness, as well as on ongoing conflicts and negotiations pertaining to informal tent camps and settlements. I am interested in how these politics reflect back on contemporary welfare- and housing politics in Sweden, and in processes of marginalisation, racialisation and exclusion. My empirical material consists primarly of interviews, legal and political documents, and newsmedia. I also draw on historical research on the governance of Roma and travellers. Theoretically I seek to bridge urban studies, theories on welfare politics and citizenship, critical race theory and post-colonial perspectives. I am part of the research environment MUSA (Migration, Urbanisation and Societal Change) at Malmö University, as well as the national research platform CRUSH (Critical Urban Sustainability Hub; I am also enrolled as a PhD student at Roskilde University in Denmark. citat
