Sara Ellis Nilsson
Senior Lecturer

Sara Ellis Nilsson has a Ph.D. in history and is a lecturer at Historical Studies. In 2015, she defended her doctoral thesis which focuses on the emergence of new cults of local Danish and Swedish saints in the early medieval period and their connection to the Christianization of the region. Currently, she is doing research for three projects: 1) a study of the connection between local cults of saints and lay piety in early medieval Scandinavia, 2) a project on the portrayal of non-holy bishops in Scandinavian hagiography and the formation of textual communities, and 3) a study on how Viking ships are used in the formation of narratives and the transmission of knowledge – as part of a larger project on ships, their decoration and their use in/by museums, tied in part to the Centre for Sea and Society, Göteborg University.
