Christofer Berglund
Senior Lecturer

Assistant Professor of Political Science

My research interests span the fields of comparative politics and international relations with a thematic focus on: ethnic politics and implicit attitudes; competitive authoritarianism and democratization; and strategic studies. I specialize in the geographic area of post-Soviet Eurasia and the Caucasus, and utilize methods ranging from elite interviews to field experiments.

In the doctoral dissertation, I examined the efforts of the Georgian government following the Rose Revolution to integrate two borderlands, one populated by Armenians (Javakheti) and the other by Azeris (Kvemo Kartli). Findings from this project received the Best Doctoral Student Paper Award (Category: Caucasus-Russia-Ukraine) at the 2014 ASN Conference. My articles have been published in Nations and Nationalism, Nationalities Papers, Caucasus Survey, Journal of Language and Social Psychology, and Demokratizatsiya. I have written reports for Foreign Policy, and contributed with chapters to several edited books.

I have earlier worked with the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) and at the Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies (IRES) in Uppsala. I have also been a visiting scholar at the George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs (IERES) and at several universities and think-tanks in the Caucasus and in the Baltics.
