Malin Ideland

Malin Ideland works as professor in Educational sciences, and is docent in Ethnology. She has three primary research interests. The first is marketization and neoliberal governing of education. This is explored in the project Education Inc. Exploring conditions, forms and consequences of edu-preneurial engagement in Swedish schools (Vetenskapsrådet 2018-2020).

The second research focus is how norms for Swedishness, whiteness and social class organize how we can think and act concerning education, but also sustainability and science. This was studied in the project The eco-certified child (Vetenskapsrådet 2012-2014), but is also an important perspective in the doctoral school Learning in multi-cultural contexts, which Malin Ideland coordinates.

Ideland’s third research interest concerns aspects of environmentalism and sustainability, and to challenge commonsensical understandings of sustainability work. This was an important aspect of the project The eco-certified child, and is now explored in the project Waste Work in the Sustainability Economy: Transforming Values of Waste Water and Catering Waste (Vetenskapsrådet, 2018-2020).
